His Graceful look Calms the Anxious Mind
If anyone is in real earnest to see a saint, not only the saint, but God also, fulfills his wish. The more anxious a devotee is for the saint’s visit, and the more devout and faithful he is, the more speedily and effectively his wish is satisfied to his heart’s content. He who invites a devotee for a visit, also arranges everything for his reception, as illustrated in the following incident:
There lived in Vani, Nasik District, a man named Kakaji Vaidya. He was the priest of the goddess Sapta Shringi. He was so overwhelmed with adverse circumstances and calamities that he lost his peace of mind and became quite restless. Under such circumstances, he went into the temple of the goddess one evening and prayed fervently to her from deep within his heart, invoking her aid to free him from anxiety. The goddess was pleased with his devotion and that same night appeared to him in his dream saying, “You should go to Baba, and then your mind will become calm and composed.” While Kakaji was thinking about how and when he would go to Shirdi, a guest came to his home to take him to Shirdi. That visitor was none other than Shama, an intimate devotee of Baba.
As soon as Kakaji Vaidya saw Sai Baba, his eyes were bedewed with tears and his mind attained calmness. As the Goddess told him, no sooner he saw Baba, his mind lost its restlessness and it became calm. Kakaji then thought, “What a wonderful power is this! Baba spoke no word, there was no question answered, no benediction pronounced: the mere darshan itself was so conducive to happiness; the restlessness of my mind disappeared by His mere darshan, consciousness of joy came over me, this is what is called ‘the greatness of darshan’”
As quoted in Shri Guru Bhagavat:
Guru khoje je mane mane || Guru milanti taku dine
Apratyaashita bhaabe paai || Bhakata jaae dhanya hoi
Shubha saanidhyara sakaashe || Rahai bhakta GurupaasheDekhi tahin bahu bhakata || Dibya bhaabanaa hue jaata
One who intensely yearns for a Guru, ultimately finds him. To the devotee, a chance of meeting with the Guru, seems to be a divine blessing. The devotee lives in the noble companionship of the Guru. Observing (the conduct of) the fellow devotees (with the Guru), he is filled with pious thoughts.
Gurunku paai nikatare || Bibhorataa jaage praanare
Nirekhi Gurunka byaktitwa || Taa’praana huai santapta
Abhaabita je ehipari || Guru milibe krupaakariLaage je bhaagya gala kholi || Shreshta sampada galaa mili
Being in close companionship with the Guru, rouses an inner ecstasy in him. He gets satiated by observing the divine personality of the Guru. An unexpected meeting with the Guru, seems to open the doors of his destiny. He feels as if he has gained the most precious possession in life.
